How it works: Musicians* drop their names into a hat. Two names are drawn — those two decide whether to perform as a duo or push their luck by drawing up to 3 more names, one at a time, for a trio, quartet, or quintet. Then the next band gets formed the same way, and so on until everyone has been drawn.

Preparation: Once all the bands are formed, everyone gets 15 minutes to prepare a performance of maximum 5 minutes. After those 15 minutes, all bands must be in the club and ready to go. The concert starts in the order the bands were formed, with no more than a 2-minute gap between performances.

Running late? No worries — latecomers can throw their name in the hat at any point. As soon as there's at least one other name in there with yours, you can choose to play as a duo, or hold out and see if more names follow. Just keep in mind: preparation time is shared with everyone else, so the clock won't wait for you.
